Kabuki Sushi Thai: Veggie Dumplings, Spicy Edamame and Vegetable Sushi

The best Happy Hour in Palm Beach County is at Kabuki Sushi Thai across all four locations in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Boynton Beach.

Eating out is becoming increasingly expensive (and honestly, kinda depressing because everything tastes like it came out of the same Sysco slop trough) but if you walk into Kabuki with your favorite person in the company of President Grant ($50), you will walk out happy and full.

Which is more than I can say for a majority of the dining experiences I’ve had locally recently.

Steamed vegetarian gyoza dumplings filled with cabbage, carrots, and edamame, served with dipping sauce on Kabuki's Happy Hour menu.

Crispy fried vegetarian dumplings served with savory soy dipping sauce at Kabuki Sushi Thai Wellington.

Steamed spicy edamame tossed in sea salt, sesame-chili oil, and crushed chili flakes.

Vegetable sushi roll loaded with avocado, asparagus, cucumber, pickled radish (takuan), and toasted sesame seeds.

The Flavor Breakdown

A dumpling - regardless of country of origin - is about as close to a perfect food as it gets.

Whether you’re eating gyoza, pirogi, momo or ravioli, a delicious filling swaddled in a soft blanket of carbs hits every single time and at these prices, you can afford to get multiple plates.

Served five to an order, the veggie dumplings are stuffed with cabbage, carrots and edamame. There are no gastronomic fireworks here, just simple food with fresh flavors.

I can’t decide if I like them better steamed or fried, so I typically get both and then, order a side of peanut dressing for dipping.

  • Mouthy Girl Pro-Tip: Ask your server for the carousel of hot sauce - it comes with a Sriracha-style chili garlic sauce, dried chili flake and a chili oil. Take the Sriracha and the chili flakes and blend them into your peanut sauce. Now, dip every bite of dumpling into it and see the face of God.

The spicy edamame is another example of simple, clean flavors executed well - steamed edamame tossed with sea salt, sesame-chili oil and chili flake.

Same goes for the vegetable sushi - avocado, cucumber, asparagus and pickled radish. It’s not revelatory but with a generous slather of wasabi, it hits the spot.

The Beverage: Sexybuki

  • Price: $6

Smirnoff Orange vodka, triple sec, lemon juice, pomegranate liqueur and mango juice makes for a strong, sweet drink. A cocktail averages about $15 in Palm Beach County, so this is a steal.

One Mouthy Sandwich Girl Rating:

  • Flavor & Freshness:

    • 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪

      • While I am firmly Indian and usually want gastronomic fireworks in terms of spices and aromatics, there is something to be said about simple, clean and minimalist food done well. I’m a pretty decent cook but I don’t wrap dumplings or roll sushi, so this makes Kabuki’s Happy Hour an even better deal.

  • Value for Buck:

    • 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪

      • There is no better Happy Hour deal in Palm Beach County.

  • Vegetarian Variety:

    • 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪

      • Lots of plant-based options from dumplings to sushi to Thai curries.

  • The Verdict:

    • 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪 🥪

A rare five stars based on food and value.

Lately, there has been this infuriating push to turn Palm Beach County into the sixth borough of New York City and no-one, barring politicians and avaricious developers, wants that shit.

I don’t want to eat at places with a $25 burger, a 22% auto grat and a flagship on the Upper East Side.

I want to eat well, affordably and locally. Kabuki Sushi Thai is the place to do that in Palm Beach County.
